KDE 4.1 – Released today

By Detector | 29 July 2008

Today the KDE Comunity released KDE 4.1 – a long expected version with a lot improvements and bug fixes. KDE 4.1 is the first KDE4 release to contain the Personal Information Management suite KDE-PIM with its E-Mail client KMail, the planner KOrganizer, Akregator, the RSS feed reader, KNode, the newsgroup reader and many more components integrated into the Kontact shell.
And there is improvments on a new desktop shell Plasma, introduced in 4.0 as a replacement for the KDE 3 shell. Desktop plasmoids no longer have extremely thick borders, transparent objects appear cleaner, the KDE login manager and splash screens have a new theme, and a tweaked version of the Oxygen window border (called Ozone) is included and better blends into the styles. Plasma itself has also been given its own theme engine (separate from the KDE desktop theme) with several different themes already built in.
