By Detector | 01 September 2008

Entertainer project is a complete multimedia solution for Gnome and XFce environments written in Python. It uses GStreamer for multimedia playback so it can play almost any video and audio format that GStreamer supports. The user interface is implemented with the Clutter library, allowing smooth animated OpenGL interface. The project is in heavy development and this is the first beta release.

According to official Entertainer site, the ultimate goal of this project is to create the best media center solution available for any platform. This means that Entertainer should be the best looking, most easy to use and most feature filled media center solution available. There are many good MCE solutions for linux like MythTV, Elisa, the new and still in alpha – Boxee, so achieving the entertainer goal will not be simple.

Navigate music by artst, album, or even make your own playlists. Entertainer also automatically downloads album art and lyrics for the tracks. You can view your favourite photos, get the weather report or read the news with integrated RSS reader. Entertainer support themes also, so you can make your media center look just the way you want.
