Larrabee – Intel strikes back next year

By Detector | 08 November 2008

Intel revolutionary graphic chip will be on the market lately at 2009. The first versions will be for workstations and Intel wants to attack the most profitable Nvidia market, with share of around 85 percent.

Workstation drivers are complex to develop, becouse they are based on OpenGL (this is what most of the workstation applications use) and there are still needs for optimizations for final driver perfection. The directX drives are less complex for develop. At the beginning there will be drivers only for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux. The old but good Windows Xp will not be supported, or maybe the XP drivers will be ready when the desktop, gaming Larrabee comes later, in 2010.
