By Detector | 31 December 2008

Installing new theme on Ubuntu is really easy. You can found many great themes here.

On gnome-look site, choose GTK 2.x from left menu, and then if you want the best themes choose highest rated. You can get preview on all themes. Download themes that you like and follow this tutorial to install it:

  1. Go to System → Preferences → Appearance
  2. Go to the folder where you download the themes. If the file is “.tar.gz” just drag and drop in Appearance window. Ubuntu will recognize the theme and install it automatically.
  3. If the theme is zipped, double click on it, unzip it on desktop, If there is any folders, look in folder Gtk for themes, found “.tar.gz” files and repeat Step 2.

Absolutely beautiful OS, It makes me miss my Ubuntu box. I am using Apple imac with Leopard, and Windows Vista I love it, but still miss Linux. I just wish someone would work out the hardware compatibilities and codec licensing issues, so we can all go Open Source. Thanks for the great post!

  2. You can always install Ubuntu on iMac, it has iMac hardware support and use MacOS, Windows and Ubuntu on one system :)
