nVidia ION Atom platform announced

nVidia announced new Atom chipset platform named – Ion. The new chipset will be appropriate for Intel Atom processors, the heart of every netbook and nettop computers. Until now, Intel distributes Atom processors only with Intel GMA945 chipset that is main restriction for every advance tasks (HD Videos for example).

nVidia chipset and graphics solution are synergy of GeForce 9400 graphics an nVidia chipset MCP7A or MCP79. The chipset and Atom processors compose new Ion platform. That will deliver almost 10 times better graphics performance: plays full 1080p HD, support full Vista, Windows 7 and 3D Linux UI (User Interface) run popular games and is ready to replace expensive home media center PCs.


According to Digitimes, nVidia plan for this platform is not already approved by Intel. The company and the nVidia Chief – Drew Henry is in direct negotiations with popular PC makers to indirectly force Intel to sell only Atom processors and then integrate it in the new nVidia chipsets.
