Windows tip: Overclock ATI video cards

By Detector | 09 December 2008

ATI does not has build in overclocking feature into their drivers like their Nvidia counterpart. To overclock ATI video cards you will need third party software like Radlinker. Radlinker is a tweaker/linker for ATI Radeon based graphics cards for Windows 98/ME/2000, XP, Vista operating systems. It provides also support for display adapters based upon newer ATI graphics processors.

To overclock an ATI video card with Radlinker:

  1. Install the program.
  2. Go to ‘start\control panel\display’ and select the ‘settings’ tab then hit ‘advanced.
  3. Select the ‘Radlinker’ tab.
  4. Check the ‘enable clock rate change’ box. The sliders below are now enabled, allowing you to overclock the memory and processor speed. Click the set button to set the desired rate, then benchmark the card. Watch for visual problems in the benchmarks as you run them, and back off the speed once they are present.

  5. Use the ‘use current’ button below to apply the changes every time you boot.
