Apple iPhone OS 3.0 – 100 new features, 1000 new APIs

Apple announced the new iPhone OS 3.0 version a few days ago, bringing new and expected features to iPhone. Apple also improved iPhone OS in developer side, with 1000 new APIs that will give developers new possibilities to control the iPhone. And changes on AppStore are announced.


Here is list of most interesting OS 3.0 changes:

  • Cut, Copy and Paste
  • Stereo A2DP Bluetooth streaming
  • Landscape keyboard for all apps
  • Spotlight search with support of Mail, Calendar, Notes, iPod and web
  • MMS support
  • Voice recording
  • Live video and audio streaming
  • Push notifications
  • Tethering
  • Turn-by-turn navigation
  • Detailed Calls Log with call durations
  • Support for YouTube accounts and YouTube subscriptions
  • Synced notes with iTunes
  • Shake-to-shuffle function for iPod
  • Camera displays last taken picture in lower left corner – just as in existing snapture app
  • You can forward and delete individual messages
  • WiFi auto-login for hotspots
  • Bluetooth peer-to-peer connection, file exchange and remote control
  • Safari gets password login manager
  • New action button in Photos lets you choose multiple pictures to attach to a mail message
  • There are Voice Memos, which can be edited, cropped and shared using email or MMS
  • Calendar gets Exchange support and will be able to sync with Google and Yahoo calendar services
  • Stocks app will be getting news stories and stock details
  • Anti-phishing tool in Safari
  • Increased number of supported languages
  • Extended Parental Controls to movies, TV shows and App Store content
  • iTunes store account creation
  • Proxy support

Even iPhone gets many new features, there was no room for most wanted like:

  • Flash support
  • Video recording
  • Background apps – multi-tasking
  • No to-do app
  • No unified messaging
  • Video section for the iPhone’s iTunes Store

We expect that Apple will include these features on next iPhone OS release.
