Youtube content in HD 1080p (1920×1080) resolution

Google’s YouTube service has announced soon availability of YouTube content in full HD 1080p (1920×1080) resolution and the corresponding new player will be available to the users within a few days. The current YouTube content is 720p (1280 × 720px).

Some info about YouTube video content: YouTube original content is saved at resolution uploaded by their users and the company then recodes user content to the appropriate resolution for display. Now, for HD streaming, the company needs only to recode original uploaded user content in HD resolution. Youtube says that almost half of their content is already recoded for the new HD player.

Currently, only about 10% of the YouTube content is played in 720p high-definition. The reason for this is that many YouTube users are hardware or bandwidth limited for HD streaming. Also, there is a lot of uploaded content recorded with mobile devices so recoding that content in HD is not possible.
