How to get microphone to work on Ubuntu

By Detector | 27 May 2010

If you are using Skype or other VoIP software, after installing Ubuntu your microphone does not work. Why? The point is that microphone is muted by default installation. If you want to unmute your mic, go to System/Preferences/Sound, find Microphone or Input and uncheck Mute. After that you can freely speak to all your VoIP friends. If you are experiencing issues with low input mic volume, there is a microphone boost option on older Ubuntu (System/Preferences/Sound) or amplification bar on newer Ubuntu’s that should be enabled and properly set so you can talk with your friends without waking your neighbors… Have fun.
