Save Time with Windows Shortcuts While Driving Around Your Desktop

If you’re looking to work more efficiently in Microsoft Windows, any version, the computer shortcuts will be real help for you. DetectorPRO will try to provide you universal computer shortcuts for some of most usable Windows applications and Windows working environments, with series of 3-4 articles. (Universal means that shortcuts will work on any windows version – no matter if you are working on XP, Vista or Windows 7). In this article we will try to cover few of the most usable desktop shortcuts:

Select a file/folder/icon
Type the first letter of the file. If you have several files starting with the same letter, continue hitting the letter key until your cursor lands on the file or folder you want.

Search for a file/folder
F3

Rename a file/folder
Select the file/folder, click F2, and then re-type the name

Find out when the file or folder was created, by whom, and how big it is
Select the file, right-click, and then click Properties

Display the Start menu
Ctrl + Esc

Create a shortcut on your desktop to your favorite file/folder
Drag the file/folder icon to your desktop

  1. Thank you for those tips. They are probably very helpful when it comes to re-arrange folders and files. Maybe I should clean my desctop now that I know about all those handy shortcuts.
