Ubuntu 11.04 ready for download

By Detector | 28 April 2011

The official release of Ubuntu 11.04 is ready for download on official Ubuntu page. This release is codenamed Natty Narwhal and the major update is new Unity desktop shell, which is designed to improve overall easy navigation experience.

The new Unity-based desktop has a dock on the left screen side, and a panel at the top with an embedded global menu. There is an also, screen overlay providing access to additional features through additional content panels called “lenses.” Although is good looking, some users will find this Unity dock hard for configure. The bad thing is that dock position is fixed and cannot be customized. Unity can work in 3D or 2D version, depending of you computer hardware. After using it, I prefer classic ubuntu desktop again.

There are few changes in software too. Rhythmbox is replaced with Banshee, OpenOffice with LibreOffice, there are several Software Centre improvements – added software ratings and reviews and much more.

Download Ubuntu from the official site.
