Nvidia and Intel Atom – no barriers

By Detector | 27 December 2008

Intel denies the rumors of selling Atom processors only with Intel chipset. The rumors comes from nVidia and there are heading towards Intel’s new monopolized Processor + Chipset market.

Intel spokesman denies this rumors, and says that Intel Atom processors are available for sell as a single unit or with package with Intel chipset. He mention that the new nVidia technology is more expensive and power demanded and nVidia chipset solution “Ion” consumes more energy (18W) than Intel chipset (6W), so the consumers will get less battery autonomy.

Ion is nVidia platform for netbooks and nettops and its graphics performance is fast enough for advanced 3D User Interface, 3D games and High Definition 1080p video. The chipset is also smaller than Intel’s chipset and according to nVidia it consumes same amount of power as Intel chipset. Read more about Ion here.
