Install Global Menu on Ubuntu 10.04

By Detector | 25 May 2010

Global Menu is a gnome panel applet like Mac OS Bar – shared menu bar of almost all Gnome apps (Firefox and OpenOffice did not work because they use different rendering engine), so it saves space, it looks very cool and your desktop is organized and less confusing.

There is a several ways to install GlobalMenu on your Ubuntu. You can install it with Ubuntu Tweak following this DetectorPRO tutorial here. (This Ubuntu Tweak tutorial is recommended for both – older and newer Ubuntu versions). Or if you are using Ubuntu 9.04 or 10.04, you can install Global menu with few lines and terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:globalmenu-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-globalmenu

After installation you can find Gnome Global menu with right click on the Gnome panel and choose Add to Panel. Find Global Menu and add it to panel. You can organize your panel with replacing Menu Bar with Main Menu applet and move Global Menu Panel Applet next to Main menu, so from your main panel you can still launching your apps and have globalized menu’s for your apps.

Enjoy.
